  Finally, a successful first date

The Gatekeeper and I were supposed to meet up at 7:00 for drinks at a nearby bar. When I confirmed my plans with her earlier in the night, she told me that she was going to get there a few minutes early and be waiting at the bar. This was, of course, because she had no recollection of what I looked like. At any rate, I showed up at the place right on time and started cruising the bar looking for my date. I made a full pass without seeing anyone who looked like what I remembered her looking like. There was one girl sitting by herself at the bar, but I was pretty sure she wasn't who I was looking for. Crap, I thought to myself, just how intoxicated was I that night? I decided that before I made an ass of myself with this random girl at the bar, I should at least do a quick pass around the outside patio area, just in case she had chosen to sit out there.

I stepped outside and had a look around. In one corner of the patio, a girl was sitting by herself, nursing a beer; a girl that looked much closer to what I remembered The Gatekeeper looking like. I walked over, we exchanged nervous "hello's" and I took my seat across the table from her. She looked good, very cute and personable. I was a little nervous at first, and I could hear myself talking pretty fast and generally displaying diarrhea of the mouth symptoms. As the night continued, however, I calmed down quite a bit and actually had a pretty good time. The conversation went pretty well; there were no huge lulls to speak of. We actually ended up having quite a few things in common.

I'd planned the night out so that we wouldn't spend too much time together--just enough to determine if there was going to be a second date. Since I liked what I saw and we seemed to click, I decided to call it a night after about an hour and a half. Borrowing a little something from the world of comedians, I walked off the stage just as things were reaching their peak.

I escorted her out to her car and told her that I would be in touch. We hugged and said goodnight, which was kind of an ironic way to end the date since we'd already kissed. But, then again, she doesn't remember that either.

Tomorrow, I'm scheduled to meet up with FriendsterGirl for lunch. Updates forthcoming.
