The Dating Fool lives up to his name

Ever since Saturday's little incident with TheSister'sFriend, she has been nothing short of "in touch." I have been receiving daily emails wishing me a 'happy Monday,' asking me how I'm doing, what I've been up to, when we can get together again, etc. Of course, none of these emails addressed the faux pas from the weekend. I'll be the first to admit that I'm as clueless as any other male when it comes to the opposing gender. I honestly started to believe that perhaps TheSister'sFriend had thought about what happened, realized how silly it was and was ready to move on. So, against my better judgment, I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and see her one more time.

I met up with her and her friends on Wednesday for drinks to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. My intention was to take it easy and only be out for a few hours, feel out the situation, and then to get home at a reasonable hour. I brought a friend of mine along just in case things were looking less than stellar and the night needed to be salvaged. The bar where we found the group was running a special; buckets full of Mexican beers for $4. Why oh why couldn't Cinco de Mayo have fallen on a Friday or Saturday night? But, I stayed true to the cause and did not over imbibe. Everyone else, on the other hand, seemed pretty hell bent on celebrating.

By the time we left the bar, it was still relatively early, so I agreed to go on to one more establishment. TheSister'sFriend had only had a couple beers, but she seemed to be doing quite well; putting her arm around my waist, flirting heavily with me, and the like. At the second bar, we all continued to hang out together and TheSister'sFriend continued to shower me with very positive body language. Around 10:00PM, the DJ fired up the turn tables and started playing a very good mix of music. There also happened to be a little dance floor in the middle of the bar, so it wasn't long before the girls all wanted to get their groove on. I was happy to accompany them to the floor and, of course, it was only a matter of seconds before TheSister'sFriend was all over me.

An internal debate began to rage on in my head. Here was a girl who was practically throwing herself at me; grinding against me, holding me tightly, and staring into my eyes with, what I interpreted to be, a gaze of desire. Yet, this was also the same person who had seemed interested days before and denied kissing me at the end of the night. I decided that I was going to make another move, but I would hold out for the end of the night before doing so.

The rest of the night continued in the same manner. Plenty of interest expressed by TheSister'sFriend and me debating the legitimacy of the situation. By 11:30, I was ready to get going. Unfortunately, nobody else seemed concerned with having to wake up for work the next morning and, instead, they begged me to stay out. I succumbed to peer-pressure and agreed to stick around for another half hour. By midnight, I'd reached the point of diminishing returns and, even if something were to happen with TheSister'sFriend, it was quickly losing any and all value. I started to say my goodbyes, and, much to my surprise, everyone decided to leave with me.

TheSister'sFriend lives about ten or so blocks from the bar, so they had just walked over earlier in the evening. As such, my friend and I offered to give her and her roommate a ride home. On the way over, I couldn't help but feel like I had been there before. By the time we'd reached their complex, I realized that LongNLean lived just across the street. Great, one-stop dating.

We stopped to let them out; the roommate left us immediately and started to walk to the door. TheSister'sFriend, and I dawdled a bit and then started to say goodnight to each other. We were standing in each other's arms, our eyes locked upon each other's and she seemed to beckon me in. Without hesitation, I leaned toward her face to kiss her. This time, our lips met and she started to kiss me back. For all of one second. As quickly as it had started, she immediately pulled away.

"I can't do this," she stammered.

"Is it because of [TheSister]?" I asked.

"No."

"Ok, well now I'm really fucking confused." I tried not to let my annoyance show too readily.

"I'm sorry. I really want to see you again this week. What are your plans for the weekend?"

Are you kidding me? I can tell you right now that my plans don't involve the two of us! "Actually, I'm going to be really busy for the next week or so, I'm heading out of town this weekend, as well."

"Oh."

"Alright, well I had a lot of fun tonight, but I need to get some sleep. It looks like [her roommate] is waiting for you to unlock the door so she can go inside. I'll talk to you soon."

*Sigh,* Scratch another name from the dating roster.
